Scrace Architects were invited to enter the Vinyl Shopfront competition by GO! Southampton, for a series of public realm interventions across Southampton City Centre. Part of an ongoing strategy to enliven the city centre, the Vinyl Shopfront project looks to bring to life the vacant retail shopfronts across the busy high streets.
The Scrace Architects proposal looks to treat the shopfronts as ‘gifts’ which are individually wrapped, bringing texture and colour to the street scene. Each wrapping would be fully recyclable, designed for the specific location and local retail outlets, creating a unique and fitting art installation for the specific area of the Southampton. Each wrap showcases a little known, but intriguing fact about a fantastic city.
GO! Southampton is the City’s Business Improvement District (BID) for Southampton City Centre, a steering group consisting of local businesses and organisations who all share the vision for pushing Southampton to reach its full potential, through projects and improvements.
