Scrace Architects were approached to assist with the redevelopment of Broughton House, an existing 1960’s detached house which our clients had outgrown. They were looking to modestly increase the footprint from two bedroom to a three bedroom house, increase the living space whilst also upgrading the whole house to modern standards and sustainable credentials.
The designs were developed that responds to the families’ specific spatial requirements and the constraints of the site. The design includes a modest extension and remodel, making the most of the existing accommodation and not losing valuable outside space.
Drawing on the rural setting the designs have establish character through subtle material choices, such as brick, timber cladding and clay tiles, establishing a neutral palette as fitting with the surroundings. Rather than define the extension as new it was felt that wrapping the entire building would benefit to unify the style and improve the visual appearance.
