Art = Architecture

I have always been fascinated by both the natural and built world. I think my interest in architecture stems from its raw power to influence experience and feeling. It is this passion for good space that has influenced the way I choose to practise.

Like most children, I still spend most of my time looking up. I enjoy documenting and shaping spaces and challenging the norm by attempting to abstract the world around me.

I am happiest when I am changing people’s lives and I have been fortunate to be invited into clients’ houses to listen to them and help them realise their dreams. Bringing my artistic skills into the structured process of architectural practice allows me to communicate ideas and implement changes and improvements to the space that people call home.

Art will save architecture
“Art will save Architecture” – Steven Holl

My artistic appetite for painting and photography, now incorporated into my daily routine, allows me to test ideas and to see things differently. Conversely, I find that my architectural interpretations and process create a narrative to my artwork. Much like a building project, my artistic work tends to be constructed over a year or two, often as a collection of memories that tell a story or document a journey.  Today, much like Steven Holl, I see myself as an architect that enjoys painting, who is keen to harness the best of both worlds.
