Our client approached Scrace Architects to design a new commercial office in the heart of the countryside. They were looking to maximise the potential of their site and encourage business by creating a first-class commercial premises in a rural setting.
Due to the sensitivity of the setting the design had to be sympathetic to its surroundings, working to enhance its natural backdrop. Oak framing provides a material connection to the surrounding landscape and link to a historic craft. Internally the timber frame design provides a canopy overhead akin to a walk or drive through a forest. Taking inspiration from the agricultural heritage of the site the office design takes the form of a long barn.
The layout for this rural office is adaptable, with a larger office for day-to-day operations and an additional multifunctional venue, to be used by the community for sport, private functions and schools wanting to engage with the unique location.
